Environmental impact
Netlon mesh elements, which are made of polypropylene and about 10 x 5 cm large, are mixed into the turf-bearing layer and are therefore not exposed to any UV radiation. These mesh elements are what makes the high load-bearing capacity of the system possible. The polypropylene used for the mesh elements remains stable in the substrate for at least 350 years according to the manufacturer’s information. It does not decompose and does not contain any plasticisers or admixtures. Consequently there is no risk to groundwater.
If a Netlon surface is ever abandoned, the Netlon mesh elements can be sifted out of the turf-bearing layer again and separated from the substrate. It is then possible to reuse, recycle or recover (thermal recovery without residue) the Netlon mesh elements.
